Spring 2008 Jam-On Address
« on: April 29, 2008, 08:18:53 PM »
OK, I have procrastinated and procrastinated, putting this off over and over again.  Enough is enough, it's time to git 'er done...

UPDATE TIME!

THANK YOU!!!

First, let me begin with what is most important, thanking you ALL for your patience and support!  It has now been nearly 2 1/2 years since I embarked on the new Newcleus album project, and many months since the final pre-order was sold.  I have to say that my frustration over the amount of time it has taken has only been surpassed by the patience and understanding that ALL of you have shown.  I cannot even begin to thank you all enough, you have a permanent seat in my heart!  I will now give you a detailed explanation of what is going on.

HEALTH ISSUES

To start with, I am fat!  That's it, I have said it.  It has seriously slowed me down.  It's true that I am also getting a bit long in the tooth, but that is no comparison to the fat thing.  The fat thing has brought with it Hypertension and High Cholesterol, Dr's visits and medication, and what seems to be an almost always present head cold.  All of which slow me down immensely.  I am working on it through diet and exercise (not the easiest thing when you spend so much time on the road), but it's a tough hill to climb.  However, it is not the fat issue that is giving me the most problems.

As some of you may remember, I had 2 strokes in 2004, right when we began fashioning the Newcleus / Jam-On re-emergence.  I still have residual numbness on the left side of my body.  However, 2 years ago I started to develop Tinnitus in my right ear.  At first it was a slight clicking that would only intermittently show up, but over the months it grew in severity and persistence.  Considering that Tinnitus in only 1 ear can often be a sign of neurological problems, it began to cause great worry to me and my family.  Frankly, it sapped my desire to work on my music and it made it hard to work on it when I did.  It has now developed into a rather annoying, and sometimes quite loud and obnoxious, cicada like chirping in my ear that rarely goes away.  It is still getting worse as well, our last 2 gigs were the first times that I had heard it during a performance, despite the loud sound systems.  It has been hell, and I have not been getting much work done.

However, over the past month I have been extensively tested by my Neurologist and my EENT specialist, and they have ruled out Neurological causes.  They are under the impression that since my right ear is my DJ cueing ear, and that I have been abusing it with blasting headphones since 1976, that my Tinnitus is due to sound damage.  So though relief is not likely, at least I now have the peace of mind to know that it is not connected to my strokes in any way.  I am now determined to forge ahead.  Cozmo D is back in effect!

BACK TO THE FUNK!

The new Newcleus album project originally began as a remix album.  Then it became an Electro album and was developing steadily, if not quickly.  Then, right about the time I started really fighting with the Tinnitus, I started losing my feel for the album.  Sure, the Tinnitus takes a good bit of the blame, but there was something else.  Something was missing from the entire project.  Then, just recently, it hit me... I NEED SOME FUNK!!!

If you remember, I had planned to separate the 2 faces of Newcleus into 2 different musical entities.  The Electro would stay Newcleus, while the Funk and Hip-Hop would be Cozmo D & The Jam-On Crew.  What I didn't keep in mind is that Newcleus Electro ALWAYS contained a nice dose of Funk and Hip-Hop.  By not keeping that in mind I was allowing the Electro to stagnate, so nothing I was coming up with was making it out of the studio.  Well, NO MORE!

Though I still plan to do a more Hip-Hop, sample oriented (with good doses of Funk and Jazz) Cozmo D & The Jam-On Crew, I will no longer stifle the Funk with Newcleus.  In fact, expect to hear Chilly B thumpin' his bass on a track real soon!  We may even kick a rhyme or 2!  I also will no longer constrain Newcleus to songs with a message either.  If it's gonna be Funk it's gotta be fun!

NEW RELEASE DATE!!!

July 1st.  There, I said it.  We will simultaneously release the album with 2 singles ("Automan" and "Falling Down") AND the single "Summer Of '79" by Cozmo D & The Jam-On Crew.  We ain't playin' no mo'!  Hopefully I will be making some announcements about vinyl soon as well.

FRESH OUT THE FACTORY!

The "Destination: Earth", "Jam On Revenge" and "Space Is The Place" albums are now all factory replicated!  No more CD-Rs!  The only drawback is now that they are factory shrink-wrapped I will no longer be automatically autographing them.  Please remember to ask for an autograph in the comment section when placing your order and I will open your CDs and sign them.  In the future I may have to add a slight nominal charge for this service, especially for large orders.

Finally... NEWCLEUS DOES DEMF!!!

INFORMATION

'Nuff said!

EZ,
Coz

Hey Cozmo, great to hear you're motivated again and doing your best to deal with the health issues.

And the Movement festival, damn, I'd love to check that out one year. Surprised they even have people like Pete Rock there.

No stress for me over the delayed album release. Best to get your health improved first. Good luck with it!

Ah, words of inspiration! - Music to my ears!

In regard to being fat, while a daunting task to reverse, as long as the desire is "truly" there, it should come quite easily. Self discipline is the key! Of course, once thinner you can still call yourself phat and be true to the word.

Perhaps we should all write to "Celebrity Fit Club" and get you on the show? We don't want you getting to the point where Weird Al does a parity of "Jam On It" - I can see it now...

"Jam On It, a Jam On It, I put Jam,j,j,j,jam On It - If its cake I take a bite, then a bite of Milky Way, whatever time it is I just eat all day..."

"Hey look its Cozmo D"
"Who's that a gang?"
"Nah, that's just one guy"

Just busting on ya a bit. But seriously, haveing the desire and self discipline to change things is the key - You have my sincerest support!

Dang, had no idea about the strokes.  Glad to hear how you've overcome them. I've got tinnitus also and just find that as long as I don't focus on it I often don't even recognize it anymore. Then again I don't use my hearing like you surely do  :urock:

PS- there's lots of hills in Pennsyltucky for your fatass to climb
